This policy explains what information Green Basket collects, why, and what you can ask us to do about it. It covers greenbasket.buzz and nothing else.
Green Basket is an independent editorial site publishing guides on low-waste household goods and food. The data controller is Janet Anderson, reachable at [email protected]. We are based in the United States and this site is operated from a single server in Los Angeles, California.
We collect two kinds of information, and only two.
Information you give us: an email address if you subscribe to the newsletter, and whatever you include in a message if you email us. Nothing else is requested, and there is no account system on this site.
Information collected automatically: standard server logs, which record the requested URL, the time, the referring page, the browser user agent and the IP address. Our CDN provider also processes request metadata at the network edge.
What we do not collect: we do not collect names, postal addresses, phone numbers, payment details, government identifiers or precise location. We do not build profiles of individual readers.
This site sets no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking cookies. Cloudflare may set a small number of strictly necessary security cookies, including a bot-management cookie and a load-balancing cookie. These exist to keep the site reachable and to block abusive traffic. A cookie notice is not shown because no consent-requiring cookie is set.
If you leave a comment, WordPress stores a cookie with your name, email address and site URL so you do not have to retype them. That cookie lasts one year and is only set after you choose to comment.
The subscription form on this site stores only the email address you type. Addresses are held in this site’s own database, in a private list that is not publicly accessible. We do not share, sell, rent or export that list, and we do not use an external email marketing platform.
Every message we send includes a one-click unsubscribe instruction. You can also email [email protected] and ask to be removed, and we will delete the record rather than archive it.
Comments are open on entries and are held for moderation before publication. When you comment we store the name, email address, IP address and browser user agent you provide, because that is what WordPress needs to filter spam and to let you edit your own comment afterwards. Comment text and the name you choose are published; your email address is not.
Comments and their metadata are retained for as long as the entry remains published, unless you ask us to remove them.
Some outbound links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and then buy something, the retailer may pay us a commission. The link itself passes a tracking identifier to the retailer’s network so the sale can be attributed.
Clicking an affiliate link means the retailer and its affiliate network will see that a visit came from this site, together with the usual technical data their own systems collect. Their handling of that data is governed by their privacy policy, not ours. We receive aggregate reports – clicks, orders, commission amounts – and never receive your name, address or payment details.
Affiliate status never determines whether an item is covered or how it is described.
Illustrations on this site are sourced from Wikimedia Commons and are credited in the file metadata. They are served from this domain. We do not embed YouTube videos, social media posts, maps or other third-party widgets that would set cookies on our pages.
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with the service providers needed to run the site:
Server logs are rotated and discarded after roughly thirty days. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe, at which point the record is deleted. Comments and their metadata are kept while the entry stays published. Email correspondence is kept for up to two years so we can follow up on a correction.
Site files and the database sit on one server in Los Angeles, California, in the United States. Cloudflare processes requests at edge locations worldwide, so a request from Europe may be handled in Europe before reaching the origin server in the United States.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, this means your data is transferred outside those regions. The transfer relies on the service providers’ standard contractual clauses and, for Cloudflare, its adherence to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
Under the GDPR you can complain to the data protection authority in your country of residence. Under the CCPA and CPRA, California residents have the right to know what is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined, so there is nothing to opt out of, but you can still write to us and ask.
To exercise any right, email [email protected]. We respond within thirty days and will not charge a fee.
This site is written for adults managing a household budget. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under sixteen. If you believe a child has submitted an email address, tell us and we will delete it.
The site is served exclusively over HTTPS with a valid certificate, and administrative access is limited to a single account protected by a strong password. The database is not exposed to the public internet. No system is perfect, and we make no absolute guarantee, but the surface here is deliberately small: one server, no user accounts, no payment processing.
If the way we handle data changes materially, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it. Substantial changes affecting newsletter subscribers are announced in the newsletter itself. Previous versions are available on request.
Questions about this policy, or a request relating to your data, go to [email protected]. Write “privacy” in the subject line and we will route it correctly.
