About

Green Basket is a small editorial project about getting more use out of what you already own. We look at everyday household goods and food, work out what a sensible replacement actually costs per use, and write down the result so you can copy it.

What we cover

Six running collections: the kitchen and pantry, cleaning and laundry, refills and packaging, food waste and storage, repair and reuse, and the buying decisions that sit behind all of them. Every collection is built from the same question – what does this cost me for each time I use it.

How we test

Nothing here is a lab report. We buy, borrow or already own the item, run it through a normal week, and count. A cloth wipe gets counted by washing cycles before it falls apart. A filter jug gets counted by litres before the cartridge needs swapping. A repair gets counted by how many months the garment stayed in rotation afterwards.

When a swap does not pay back, we say so. Several entries on this site exist purely to talk someone out of a purchase that looks green and behaves expensively.

Editorial independence

We do not accept payment for a ranking, a review or a placement. No brand has ever seen an entry before publication. Some outbound links are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you buy through them. That commission has no bearing on whether an item appears, where it appears, or what we say about it. When we recommend something we would not buy ourselves, we say that instead.

Corrections

If a price has moved, a product has been discontinued, or a claim on this site does not match your experience, write to us and we will check it. Corrections are noted in the entry itself rather than quietly edited away.
